Robert Marshall Nutt and Hannah Frazer

Married

Husband:   Robert Marshall Nutt

Born: 15-Jun-1899
Died: 15-Jun-1980
Father: William Nutt
Mother: Mary Marshall

Robert Nutt was a clever scholar who won prizes at school, but left early because of his deafness. Unable to find paid work, he worked with his father in Ferniegair Colliery, near Hamilton Lanarkshire, receiving some payment from his father's wage. Robert became a fully employed miner in Ferniegair and was known as 'The Mighty Atom' by his workmates because of his capacity for work.
Robert's deafness was alleviated by the invention of battery-powered hearing aids, and he became a store man with the Scottish Gas Board. Robert was born on June 15th 1899.

Robert and Hannah Nutt also purchased their own terraced, stone-built cottage at 25, Burnhead, Larkhall and then at 18, Croft Place, Larkhall. These purchases signify their business sense and their thrift. Robert and Hannah had two daughters, Sarah and Mary. Nutt is a name stemming from the ancient name Canute. This name is also spelled Knutt and MacNutt; a spelling can be seen on a memorial stone on the internal wall of Salisbury Cathedral, the north wall as I remember it. The spelling is 'Knutt'.
