Mary had lived in Carnbroe, near Airdrie, and in Larkhall. Mary was a gentle lady of great Christian understanding. William and Mary were thrifty persons and bought their own houses, firstly a house called 'Annfield' and then one called 'Largobank', stone cottages on the main A74 road at Strutherhill, Larkhall. They later purchased three houses in a grey-stone building in 25, Montgomery Street, Larkhall. Father and mother occupying the larger ground storey house and their son Jackson and daughter Mary occupying the upstairs houses.
